This is going to be a rather dull race report with no going off on random tangents for once. Boscombe 10k, our last Championship race of 2025. A great race as always. Organised brilliantly by the Bournemouth Joggers ladies with lots of smiley encouraging marshals along the route. That is apart from the grumpy woman who failed to direct us to the car park before the race. I am not convinced she volunteered for that post willingly. The weather was a bit rubbish so the ‘what to wear faff’ game was played by many pre race.
By my reckoning 21 Purbeck Runners competed this morning. Joolz led the men in, chased by Taylor with Graham coming in with bronze. For the ladies, Mary secured her first PR win with Lorna hot on her heels.
This time last year Abi famously did her best Richard Gere in ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ impression by gallantly going back to help a lady who had fallen and thus sacrificing her place in the race. This year we just have to thank her for her cheery support on the route. Thanks Abi! Oh wait, here is a teeny tiny tangent, Richard Gere happens to be my auxiliary, back up, imaginary husband and An Officer and a Gentleman is my favourite film ever.
Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, Boscombe 10K. Joolz and Hamish both won their age category prizes, Chris M was 2nd in his, while Barbera came 2nd in hers. I must mention Martin who came in well under his 90 minute prediction. It was also lovely to see Kirsty run her first race with the Club and we all look forward to seeing her compete next year.
As I type, the results have just come in so I will have a bash at not mucking up the final championship tables. Ooh that would be really really bad, I wonder if I can get trophies that can be Tippexed? (a new word!). Having said that, I don’t think I can upload them until the website gremlins have been fixed. I don’t think that was my fault by the way. However, as my default start of any sentence tends to be ‘so sorry…..’ and I am that ridiculous woman that apologises to the person that has trodden on my foot, I can only assume that it may well have been. So, so sorry. Ooops, a random tangent – so sorry for that too!
