Huge congratulations to local legend Ross Wayne who was named Swanage Volunteer of the Year 2024 for his exceptional contribution to the community through the Durlston Country Park parkrun! Rossi was presented with his award by Swanage Town Major Tina Foster at the annual Swanage Community Awards.
Rossi was an instrumental figure in setting up the parkrun at Durlston Country Park. His ongoing commitment to the parkrun has been exceptional, not just as Co Event Director, but in the energy, enthusiasm and passion he brings every single Saturday. Rossi has been there for every parkrun, with the event celebrating its 3rd birthday on 15th March. Rossi’s energy and joyous personality is infectious and Durlston is praised by visiting parkrunners for its fantastic friendly community. His efforts have benefited so many through physical activity, mental wellbeing and friendship and the Durlston Country Park parkrun is a major part of the fantastic Swanage scene. It has also brought many visitiors into the town benefiting the local economy.
Rossi said “I’m really proud to win the award and I do so on behalf of everyone in our most amazing community. More than 500 of us have volunteered on nearly 6,000 occasions and we just love doing so. Together we have created something extaordinarily fabulous.”
Rossi was also a founding member of the Purbeck Runners and is active every week running coaching sessions for the club’s members. The Purbeck Runners are delighted to support the fabulous Durlston Country Park parkrun with many members being part of the community volunteering and running every Saturday.
